This report is submitted in the context of transportation planning and improvement of public access to
the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA), and specifically the Rodeo Lagoon watershed. As part of this planning, the GGNRA is making
an effort to identify areas that would be amenable to restoration or habitat improvement.

This technical report describes the methods, results and conclusions derived from our analysis of
historical documents and maps provided by the GGNRA, and assembled through our own research. This
report will be used with a concurrently developed technical report on hydrology and geomorphology by
UC Berkeley (Shaw 2005), in close consultation with the GGNRA staff, to create an assessment of
viable alternative sites for restoration or habitat improvement.
